A modern record-keeping platform for homeschool academies.
A full ground-up rebuild of EdPort — student records, attendance, grades, and report cards — for homeschool academy admins, parents, and teachers.
The challenge
An aging WordPress platform was holding all the academies back.
EdPort started life as a WordPress site with bolted-on plugins for student records. It worked for years, but the seams were showing — slow page loads, fragile billing, manual report-card workflows, and all the academy admins were spending evenings reconciling data instead of teaching.
We needed to rebuild from scratch without breaking the experience for all the admins, teachers and parents. Existing data — 1,629 courses, every grade and attendance record across three academies — had to migrate cleanly, with the next login feeling like a refresh, not a new product.
The approach
A new stack, a careful migration, and a calmer day-to-day.
We rebuilt the platform on a modern stack, with three role-scoped dashboards — platform, academy admin, and teacher/parent — replacing the WordPress patchwork. Tier-based subscriptions ($49 / $99 / $249 / contact-us) were wired in from day one.
Migration was the unglamorous heart of the project. We wrote one-off scripts to pull every academy, teacher, parent, student, course, and grade out of WordPress, normalize them into the new schema, and reconcile edge cases (invalid June 31 dates, HTML-encoded names, branch-ordering inconsistencies). Existing users came along, with their history intact.
The result
All academies live, hundreds of students, calm billing.
Three paying academies migrated cleanly: 10 students, 28 students, and 398 students. Subscriptions auto-created, tier-correct, billing through Stripe. Teachers and parents log in and find their students, their grades, and their report cards exactly where they left them.
What used to take an evening of spreadsheet wrangling now happens in the dashboard in five minutes. The admin team is back to running their academies instead of running the software.
A platform that gets out of the way of the people running schools.
